Daisho of the Great Warrior

by Mephyisto

Almost one hundred years ago, in Japan, there lived a sword maker of unequaled skill. His name was Imato Sakaiya. Great sadness filled his heart as he realized how hard it was becoming for those of honorable alignments to withhold their honor and morals in this now-chaotic, self-serving world. Retaining his "old world" type belief that the sword was to be used only to uphold ones honor and to protect that which the wielder believed to be right, he decided to create four sets of samurai daisho (daisho meaning paired swords - the katana and wakizashi) to help and console swordsmen, like himself, that were of an honorable alignment. His hope was that each daisho could help their wielder to uphold his honor and morals - like a friend who consoles a friend, letting him know that the actions he takes to withhold his honor are just, and helping him stick to what he believes is right (never giving in to greed or evil). The swords he would create would become not just a warrior's weapons, but a friend and companion to the warrior himself.

Two years of hard labor produced four sets of samurai daisho of unparalleled sharpness and quality. The only thing left to do was to enchant them. So, the old living legend sword maker, using an ancient arcane ritual, split his life essence in four and infused it into his final creation - four wondrous sets of samurai greater rune daisho now known as the "Daisho of the Great Warrior". The rune daisho were of four different (and distinct) honorable alignments - one set each of Principled, Scrupulous, Unprincipled, and Aberrant alignments.

Those four sets of rune swords now act as constant friends and companions to their wielders, helping them uphold their honor and protect what's right in a world torn asunder and given in to evil and greed.

The statistics for these fabulous sets of swords are below:

Daisho of the Great Warrior (paired greater rune swords):

*Each set is of a different alignment: Principled, Scrupulous, Unprincipled, and Aberrant

*Independent personality - I.Q. of 14

*Telepathic and Empathic link with wielder

*Indestructible

*Can be used to parry energy blasts (penalty of -6 to parry blast)

*Silver-blue in color (stored in black scabbards)

*Swords each inflict 1D4x10+20 M.D. (they always inflict mega-damage and do double

damage to vampires, alien intelligences, and Supernatural evil creatures)

*Each rune daisho can heal their wielder completely (all hit points and S.D.C. healed, or

all M.D.C. healed if a mega-damage creature) once per day

*Each set can drink souls (up to six per day, but only creatures of Anarchist, Miscreant,

and Diabolic alignments - those without honor)

Note: Each rune daisho is a set of two paired swords - the katana and wakizashi. And, each set, though being of two swords, is considered a single intelligence.

Creator's note: I create Rifts material for fun, not monetary gain (for me, this is a favorite hobby, not a job). The satisfaction I get is knowing that the material I create is making the campaigns of others more exciting and enjoyable. After all, the ultimate point of role-playing is to have fun and enjoy spending time with friends and fellow role-players! In other words… GM's feel free to make any changes you see fit to suit your campaigns!

To all of you… my fellow role-players, friends, and fans of Rifts… Enjoy J
