Startup Screens
Hate those blasted Microshaft Clouds just staring at you every single time you load or shut own your computer? And what about those less-than-desiarable 'Your computer is now shutting down' crap? Well I sure was, until I found this neat little trick. After that you can add animations to it if you really want to.
When you install the Plus! CD it creates three files named Logo.sys, Logow.sys, and Logos.sys. Logo.sys is located in your C:\ directory and the Logow.sys and Logos.sys are in your C:/windows directory. These are all 256 color (no more than that) .bmp images. They must be 320 pixels wide by 400 pixels high. Windows just strenches them out when it loads up. Also the filenames are CAsE SenSiTIvE, so you must call them exactly Logo.sys ect. To make your own startup screen you'll need your own image viewer (I just used MS Paint).
First you find that Rifts(R) pic you just love so much you want to die for it. You put it in Paint (by copying it and then pasting it in Paint). Then go to Image, and pull down to Attributes. Where you choose which units to go by, click Pixels, and under width you'll put in 320 and under height you'll put 400. Your image was probably chopped up right? If not just ignore the following and hold on a sec. But if it was, you'll need to push Crtl+Z (that will undo what you just did). Now, remember kinda how that looked? Grab with your mouse the very little corner of the image and drag it alittle smaller than what you think it looked like before. Now, go back and do that whole process with changing the number of pixels and everything over again. And now pull the image so fills the background thing. Okay?
Now for saving it. Go to File and Save As. In the filename thing type *.sys and hit enter.Next browse to your C:\ directory. Type in the file name Logo.sys (exactly as shown). Under that you see a thing that says Save as Type: and a bar. For the bar select 256 Color Bitmap. Now your ready to save it! It might say something like "This will take some of the quality out of the image" or some crap like that, accept it-its a small price to pay for not having to stare at that 'MicroShaft Winblowz 95' crap ever again! So accept it and deal with it. Now do the same thing with Logos.sys and Logow.sys (but remeber-these are in the C:/windows directory).
That should do it! If somethings wrong with what I told you (or at least you think so) e-mail me and I'll try to fix it.
Well, have fun messing with your screens!
